About the Busselton Jetty

The jetty is a major attraction to the town of Busselton in Western Australia. The jetty is built out into the Indian Ocean at busy Busselton Beach. During summer it is extremely crowded; however, in winter there are few people on sightseeing tours.

The Jetty is 1.8km long and takes approximately 25 minutes to reach the end by foot. You can also catch a train to the end of the jetty. The original wooden jetty was built in 1871 from local jarrah wood resource. The structure eventually deteriorated due to weather conditions and was rebuilt out of concrete.

The jetty is registered with the National Trust of Australia in recognition for its cultural significance to Western Australia. In 1974 and 1975, funding from Lotteries Commission allowed maintenance work on the structure. An interpretative centre has also been built close by for tourists seeking more information about the area’s history and attractions.

Busselton Jetty Train

The electric jetty train provides a way to enjoy the jetty with 90 seats available and departures on the hour throughout the day. This is a hit with families visiting the jetty, especially for the young children.

This train follows a path parallel to the jetty just about a couple of metres from the water’s edge and offers great views of passing dolphins, pelicans, crabs and seabirds which are often seen around this structure. If you’re lucky you may even see some whales off the end of the jetty which are often spotted during the whale migration season.

Busselton Jetty Swim

The Jetty Swim is held every year and is a charity event attracting people from all around Western Australia to swim the length of the jetty and back.

Check out the Jetty Swim website for more information on the swim and entry details.
