Roadhouses are privately owned establishments situated along highways throughout Australia, offering travelers the opportunity to pull up and grab the essentials including fuel, food, supplies, accommodation, and sometimes emergency facilities.

Although most roadhouses as just seen as a chance to fuel up, I find them to be much more than this. When you take the time to pull up, sit back, and relax in the restaurants, taverns, or rest areas within roadhouses you begin to appreciate that they are much more than just a fuel stop.

There are many roadhouses across Australia that have been around for years, which over time have built become popular places for travelers to rest with many roadhouses having both culture and history to them.

I’ve found this to be more the case with the outback road houses, especially the ones up through the northwest of WA.
