Rottnest Island is located off the coast of Perth, Western Australia. Only a short ferry ride from Fremantle or Hillaries Marina, Rottnest Island is a fantastic place to visit.

Famous for it’s quokka selfies, Rottnest Island has so much to off including great snorkelling spots, beautiful beaches, excellent fishing, diving, boating, bike riding and much more.

The island is famous for its native species of Quokkas. Quokkas are a small marsupial animal which looks cute and friendly.

The island is full of pristine beaches for swimming, snorkeling and diving. The name of the island is derived from the Dutch word ‘rat nest’. A Dutch captain who mistook the Quokkas for giant rats named it ‘’Rotte Nest’’. This amazing island is free from cars and you can enjoy the solace of nature without the hassle of daily life. 


The island is located 18 km away west of Fremantle on the off coast of Western Australia and can be reached by ferry.


The island is not just famous for its cute animal Quokkas but there is plenty of fish too. You can find all kinds of marine wildlife here. There are three kinds of fish you can find in the waters of Rottnest Island, Seagrass inhabitants, reed dwellers, and migratory species.

Rottnest Island is one of the greatest spots in Australia for anyone who is looking for an inexpensive dive adventure  off the coast of Perth. This place is suitable for both new and experienced divers, it also has some great areas for snorkelling too.

There are many caves and small reef lagoons, which makes it a fun activity for the divers to swim through. This place is a heaven for scuba divers as they can see amazing creatures and sea life in the clear and crisp waters of Rottnest Island.

One of the main activities on the island is recreational boating. There is the highest number of per capita ownership of boats in Western Australia and Rottnest Island is one of the most famous islands for boating in Australia. Waters are clear and the fishes are in plenty, which makes it an ideal place for boating in all seasons.

There are many boat tours available too, which means as a tourist you can enjoy the boating experience without any worry of carrying your boat to the location. Be sure to follow regulations and guidelines to preserve the nature and beauty of the island.
