To help I’ve but together the below instructional video showing how to install a Viking Outboard Motor Support Bracket. Hope it helps!

What is an outboard support bracket?

An outboard motor support bracket is connected between both the outboard motor and the boat trailer to help support the boat motor when you’re in transit.

Do you need an outboard support arm?

Although not a necessity, an outboard support bracket definitely helps to reduce the stress on your transom when you’re towing your boat. If you’re planning a long trip or perhaps a trip where the road is likely to have a lot of bumps or corrugations then these are definitely a good idea!

What different types of support arms are available?

There are two main types on the market. There is the basic arm (like the one featured on this page) or a spring loaded support arm. If you can afford the spring loaded arm then this is a better way to go as it will provide more support and help to absorb the impact.

If I wasn’t mounting this for a smallish 15hp Mercury then I would have definitely spent the money and got a spring loaded arm.

How do I connect the outboard motor to the support Bracket?

Firstly you must lower the outboard into the support arm. This can be done by either lowering the engine with the electric tilt into the V of the support bracket, or if you don’t have an electric trim then you can lower the motor by hand and lift the support bracket to fit.

Once the outboard motor is resting in the V support you’ll need some type of rubber strap to secure the leg of the outboard to the rubber V support. This will ensure that the outboard remains in the support bracket at all times and that the support bracket doesn’t fall off and hit the road during transit.

Are there specific support brackets for particular models?

No, most of the brackets on the market are generic and support different types of outboard. The only consideration would be the size and weight of the outboard vs the bracket so it is always best to check the specifications compared to the weight of your outboard prior to installation.
