How to Bake Fish

This is the easiest way to cook fish. this can be done with adding salt and pepper to the fish prior to baking, or alternatively you can create a nice marinate to bake the fish in.

An easy marinate to try would be one of my favourites which is made up of soy sauce, garlic, chilli, a little balsamic vinegar. Get creative though one key rule to follow is to make sure you have a balance of sweet, salty and acidic flavours in your marinate.

When marinating, you want to marinate for a least 30-90 minutes before baking. If you marinate for too long you will find that the acidic flavours will actually start to cook the fish.

Once you’re ready, place the fish on baking paper and pop it into the oven at 200 degrees C for 12 – 14 minutes depending on the size of the fish. If you’re having some vegies etc with you fish then you might as well put the vegies on the baking paper as well.

How to Pan Fry Fish

This is one of the easiest ways to cook fish, especially thin white based fish such as whiting or flounder. Follow the steps below:

  1. Apply salt and pepper to both sides of the fish;
  2. You then want to lightly coat the fish in flour;
  3. Heat a pan over high heat. Once it gets hot add a few table spoons of butter;
  4. Once the butter starts to brown, you can then add the fish to the pan;
  5. White fish can cook really fast so you only need to cook it for approximately 1.3 mins either side. Once the edges start to brown and lift off the pan this is the sign to flip it and cook the other side. Note, when you flip it you may like to add some lemons in the pan for some extra flavour.
