1. Visit Adventure World

Adventure World should definitely be at the top of the list when it comes to fun activities in Perth during summer.  Over the years I’ve taken my sons there time and time again and we’ve always had such a fun time.

No matter what you’re kids are into they will be spoilt for choice, including a heap of water slides, speed slides, roller coasters, rides, go-karts and swimming pools.

2. Go Snorkelling

Snorkelling with kids

Perth has some fantastic snorkelling spots that are worth checking out in the summer.  If you’re keen to take your kids on a snorkel during the summer then below is a list of places I would recommend:

  • Mettams Pool, Trigg
  • Point Peron, Rockingham
  • Coogee Maritime Trail, Coogee
  • Ammo Jetty, Woodman Point, Cockburn
  • Yanchep Lagoon, Yanchep
  • Little Armstrong Bay, Rottnest

3. Take a day trip to Moore River

If the weather is decent Moore River is an ideal day trip for those families looking to pack the car and head north for a fun day at Moore River.  Located approximately 1hr north of Perth, Moore River is great for kids.

With the calm of the river, you can ensure that no matter the direction of the wind or the swell on the day the river will be nice and calm for your kids to enjoy.

Acititivites you can do with the kids at Moore river include swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking and sand boarding.

If you feel like a bit of an adventure when you’re there then be sure to head upstream around the bend of the river to the massive sand dune!  You kids will have a ball here, especially if they have a sand board or bodyboard that they can use to slide down straight into the water.

4. Take the ferry to Rottnest Island

A day a Rotto with the kids is so much fun! With a number of different ferries to choose from, you can be over at Rottnest Island with your kids within the hour.  Personally, I like to make the most of our day over there so we always opt for the earliest ferry over there and then get the latest one back.

You can also take your bikes over there with most ferry services, or if you would prefer bikes and other items (such as paddleboards and snorkelling gear) can be hired on the island.

There are a heap of activities to do with the kiddies when you’re at Rottnest, including swimming, snorkelling, paddleboarding, going on the island explorer bus, kayaking, visiting the Aquaplay kids club and much much more.  Oh, and of course, you can’t forget to say hello to the Quokkas!

5. Hire a sailboat on the Swan River!

If you haven’t done it before then I’d definitely recommend hiring a sailboat and taking the kids out for a sail on the Swan River.  Located on the South Perth foreshore is Fun Cat Watersports which hires both sailboats and other watercraft.

The sailboats, or what others would call Hobie catamarans, cost $55 per boat for one hour and you can fit up to two adults and two younger children on one boat at a time.

6. Visit Hillarys Boat Harbour

Hillarys boat harbour is one of my favs Perth locations to take the kids.  With the protected swimming area, slides and a jetty to jump off kids can have hours of fun at little to no cost… well apart from treating them to an ice cream;)

Depending on the time of the year you’re there, you may also find a selection of amusement park rides to go on.

7. Go to the beach

Perth has some of the best beaches around and the best part is that there are a number of Perth beaches that are well suited for kids.  If you’re keen to take the kids to a beach in Perth then below are a list of kid-friendly beach that are worth a visit;

  • Yanchep Lagoon
  • Mullaloo Beach
  • Hillarys Marina Beach
  • Sorrento Beach
  • Mettams Pool
  • Coogee Beach
  • Rockingham Beach
  • Cottesloe Beach

8. Outback Splash

For those that live North of the River then Outback Splash is a great alternative for those that are looking for a waterpark and waterslide experience north of Perth

Outback splash has something for all ages of kids, including an island-themed structure with a tipping bucket and slides for the little ones, all the way up to a mammoth quarter-pipe slide for those teenagers looking for the ultimate thrill!
